Realizing that current handheld O-Level armament test sets lack comprehensive test capabilities as well as the cybersecurity features required to protect these mission-critical systems, Marvin Test Solutions developed a handheld, battery-powered test solution that securely supports all armament systems on all aircraft to deliver true FMC aircraft to the warfighter: the MTS-3060A SmartCan™.

The SmartCan delivers significant and advanced features that make test easy at the flightline, as well as unrivaled cybersecurity to ensure program and data integrity. Importantly, the SmartCan performs these tests in a fraction of the time needed by “big box” test sets.

State of the Art Cybersecurity Features

Removable SD card for secure data transfer and software updates. In the event that the SmartCan is used on classified platforms, the SD card may be removed to declassify the unit as no data is saved on the SmartCan itself.

Test programs can be created/maintained with Marvin Test Solutions’ ATEasy® test development and test executive software suite, which includes protections against malicious code creation, unauthorized access, and reverse-engineering.

Encryption capabilities for ATEasy source files, DLLs and executables. All programs are encrypted and can only be uploaded to the SmartCan if they match the cyber-key of the customer. This prevents unauthorized use or modifications to any test procedures.

TS-900e-5G – Industry-Leading Features for 5G mmWave Test

The TS-900e-5G series is part of Marvin Test Solutions’ GENASYS Semi suite of semiconductor test systems that offer exceptional quality, value, and flexibility for packaged and wafer device test / characterization, pilot production and focused production test, as well as automated failure analysis and test.

The TS-900e-5G's compact footprint is the ideal test solution for semiconductor manufacturing, device verification, incoming inspection, wafer probing and packaging / test vendors needing a cost-effective, configurable mmWave test system.

Modular Test Platform Flexibility
Test system flexibility, and the ability to easily update instrumentation and capabilities, is a key concern expressed by many in the semiconductor test community.

The PXI platform, or PCI eXtensions for Instrumentation (PXI), is used because the modular instrumentation architecture delivers a compact, PC-based solution that incorporates high-performance instrumentation with the benefits of an open industry standard including scalability, reduced footprint and power requirements, as well as obsolescence management.

Industry-leading Install Time and Test Throughput
The TS-900s-5G’s installation and self-test process takes less than one hour to complete, requiring no additional infrastructure such as water cooling or high-voltage power, so you can start developing test programs right away.

4- Channel PXI Source Measure Unit (SMU)

Unique Flex-Power Architecture Offers High Current and Multi-Channel Configuration Flexibility

For test applications that require precision, speed, and ease of use, consider the GX3104, a 4-Channel Source Measure Unit (SMU) offering innovative features unmatched in the industry.

The GX3014 is a precision 3U PXI module that forces and senses both voltage and current over a range of ±20 V and up to ± 1 A. The module’s unique flex-power architecture offers users the option to configure the SMU as a 4-channel, 250 mA/ channel SMU or as a single channel, 1A SMU - providing test engineers the flexibility to support both high current or multi-channel SMU applications with one module. In addition, its compact, single slot form factor offers users a high channel count test solution for multi-site test configurations. The four channels are electrically isolated from the PXI power supply and share a common, isolated ground, with all module power provided by the PXI bus, eliminating the need for bulky, external DC power supplies.

SmartCan Reduces Test and Setup Times, and Expands Capabilities

The Challenge of Flightline Test
The MTS-3060A SmartCan™ Universal O-Level Armament Test Set is the most advanced flightline test set available, delivering significant reductions in test time, training hours, and logistics footprint, while improving test performance and reliability.

Today’s flightline armament maintainer faces the challenging task of performing O-Level activities with an existing (legacy) generation of armament test sets that greatly limit the ability to quickly and efficiently verify armament system readiness, diagnose failures, and return the aircraft to service.

Bridging the Armament Test Gap
Warfighters have identified an armament test gap that exists across legacy 4th and 5th generation aircraft equipped with Smart weapon technology (MIL-STD-1760).

The current USAF handheld O-Level test sets (SERD-75060 and A/E241-199) are only capable of performing stray voltage and continuity tests of the MIL-STD-1760 Bus. This approach does not detect digital faults and will not fully validate the functionality of the interface requiring the use of additional, larger test sets.

The resulting maintenance ConOps of using multiple test sets increases maintenance costs (longer test times, training, logistics support), impacts readiness uncertainty, results in a larger footprint (size and weight) and lacks commonality across aircraft platforms.

Maintainers understand these shortcomings and have expressed the need for a common solution that supports Smart (MIL-STD-1760) and legacy weapons, functions across multiple aircraft platforms, adheres to cybersecurity requirements, supports predictive maintenance, provides menu driven operation for ease of use and training, and maintains a small, handheld form.

The MTS-3060A SmartCan is the ultimate flightline armament test set capable of testing any aircraft and weapon system currently deployed. This tester weighs just 4.2 lbs., and incorporates over 30 measurement channels, electronic loads, multiple communications interfaces (MIL-STD-1553, MMSI, Ethernet, CAN Bus, RS-485), a switch matrix, and video/audio signal generators. It can also emulate all current munitions. Data collection and storage provides trend analysis and predictive maintenance capabilities.

Field setup and test times are significantly reduced. F-16 test setup, when compared to the current solution, was reduced from 45 minutes to 4 minutes (91% reduction). Similarly, F-16 test execution times for a pylon utilizing MIL-STD-1760 and the LAU-129 were reduced from 20 minutes to 3 minutes (85% reduction), and from 35 minutes to 4 minutes (89% reduction) respectively. F-15 testing realized similar savings. Weight was reduced 95% to only 4.2 lbs. Advanced cybersecurity features and protection are provided including data and test program set (TPS) encryption and removable SD storage.

SmartCan significantly reduces setup, test time, and weight

Logistics footprint, training and support requirements are also significantly reduced. Field input from one FMS customer documented that (6) flightline test sets used on the F-16 and F-15 were replaced by (1) MTS-3060A SmartCan, significantly reducing their logistics footprint. Benefits were also realized from consistent and common training for all aircraft armament specialists. An extended 4-year calibration cycle and (6) AA battery operation further enhance maintainability.

The SmartCan is currently deployed in over 12 countries on multiple aircraft and utilized by the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School as a Smart weapons simulator for JDAM and AMRAAM.
