To use ATEasy you must purchase a license from Marvin Test Solutions. Four types of licenses are available:
● Single License (using Online Activation, manual activation or 30-days Trail License)
● Network License (Server and Client)
● Hardware Key (USB or LPT versions) License
A license can be set up from the ATEasy License Setup dialog box. This dialog is displayed either when starting ATEasy with no license or from the About ATEasy menu item under the Help menu when you want to change the license. The dialog is used to setup and install a license and to display the current user name and company and the current license Serial # of the license installed (server or client). In addition to license activation, terminating or transferring a license from one machine to another is also described below.
Users who purchased a subscription plan must register to activate the plan. A subscription plan entitles you to receive free upgrades and unlimited customer support. If you did not purchase the subscription plan you may register as well to receive a free ATEasy newsletter, product service packs, updated drivers, and examples. Follow these steps to setup an ATEasy license.
1. Install ATEasy using the ATEasy Setup program.
2. Start ATEasy.
3. Open the License Setup dialog box.
4. Select one of the following:
Once you receive the license string or file, open
the License Setup dialog box again.
Select Install
Single License from the License Type list.
Type in the License String or select the license
File. Click OK.
30 Days Trial License.
Use this option on a physical host or virtual machines (VM).
If you do not have a license, you can activate a 30-day trial of the
ATEasy. The trial license provides
almost full ATEasy functionality
for 30 days. You are allowed one 30-day trial period while your license
is being purchased or while evaluating ATEasy. Trial license should
not be used for normal use.
Select 30 Days Trial License and click OK
to start as shown here:
You must set up the License Server and the Client. The server application,
ALicenseServer.exe, must be installed
at the computer that will be the ATEasy
license server. The License Server computer can be any 32/64-bit Windows
Operating System (XP SP3 or newer), Windows Server is recommended. The
computer must be turned ON and connected to the network at all times while
the clients are running.
Note: License Server can only be
installed on a VM (virtual machine) using online activation.
To setup ATEasy network license server follow these steps :
1. Download the latest
ATEasy for MarvinTest.com/ATEasy.
The latest ATEasy supports all ATEasy client versions.
Note: Newer ATEasy version clients
will not work with older version of the license server.
2. Run the latest ATEasy version setup program at the server computer. Select Custom setup type.
3. Select the License Server option and de-select all other options unless you intend to run ATEasy on that machine.
4. After the setup is complete, the ATEasy License Server
icon will appear in the Windows Taskbar
and will be added to the server Services. Clicking on the ATEasy License
Server icon should display the menu as shown here:
You can verify the service being installed by opening the Windows Services application. The ATEasy License Server should be displayed
in the list as shown here:

5. Make sure your firewall is not blocking communication. The client/server communicate using Windows Named Pipes protocol that uses ports 137 and 139 UDP and potentially 445 TCP.
6. Click on the ATEasy icon in the Task Bar and select About ATEasy License Server....
7. Click the Set License... button to display the License Setup dialog box.
8. Select one of the following:
The license server maintains a log file ALicenseServer.log that lets you monitor the server license usage. The log contains a list of records of license installation and license transactions (acquired or released) by the clients. The log is a text file that can be found under the server Windows folder and can also be opened by right clicking on the ATEasy License Server icon on the Windows task bar and selecting View License Server Log... (this feature available v7 build 146g or v8 build 142b and above).
Perform this step only after you have installed and activated the ATEasy Network License Server on your server.
1. Install ATEasy at the client workstation, using the ATEasy Setup program.
2. Start ATEasy.
3. Open the License Setup dialog box.
4. Select Use Network License from the License Type list.
5. As shown here,
select or type the server name from the License Location list or type
its network path (DomainName/ServerName or IP/IP). Set the timeout (indicate
the maximum number of hours that you want to borrow the license from the
server, allowing you to work offline with no network connection to the
server. Click OK..
Note: If the server does not display,
you can type your server path in the location edit box (for example MARVINTEST/SERVER
or using IP: 10.10.1.6/10.10.1.6
). You may leave the dialog few minutes and wait for the License Location
list to populate. Make sure your firewall is not blocking communication.
The client/server
communicate using Windows
Named Pipes protocol that uses ports
137 and 139 UDP and potentially 445
TCP.
1. Install ATEasy using the ATEasy Setup program.
2. Start ATEasy.
3. Open the License Setup dialog box.
4. Select Hardware Key from the License Type list.
5. Click Setup
Hardware. Click OK.
This will install a device driver needed for communication with the Hardware
key. See the README.TXT located
in the Hardware Key folder below the ATEasy
main folder for more information about installing the hardware device
driver.
6. Close ATEasy.
7. Plug in the USB or LPT key into the appropriate port.
8. Start ATEasy. The license should be found. To verify it, open the About dialog from the ATEasy Help menu. The license should display Hardware Key along with its S/N.
* Online activation requires internet (https) access. The internet connection is used to activate (once), authorize (periodically) and terminate (once) your license. Make sure your firewall is allowing ATEasy to access the internet. The internet connection is used only for licensing purposes between ATEasy the a MarvinTest.com web service, no other information is transferred.
Use this procedure when replacing your computer with Single Software License (SL) ATEasy, or a Network License (NL) where ATEasy License Server reside, The procedure explain how to terminate the license before transferring it to another computer. Follow this procedure to terminate your license:
1. Launch ATEasy (for single license) or the ATEasy License Server at the server (for network license).
2. Open the About Dialog:
For ATEasy: click Help menu from the menu and then click About..
For ATEasy License Server, open the About dialog by clicking on the icon in the Windows task bar and selecting About ATEasy License Server....
3. Terminate the license:
Click On Set License...
Terminate the license:
If you have internet connection, Click on Terminate License Online and click OK and Exit ATEasy/Close the License Server.
For Manual
activation license, select Terminate
License.
On older versions of ATEasy (ATEasy 156d-PR6 or older), From
the About dialog, press: CTRL+ALT+SHFT+K
(be sure to press and hold the first three keys before pressing
the K key).
Pay special attention to the following Steps:
A dialog box will appear asking you to confirm the termination of the key. Click Yes.
DO NOT click OK when the next dialog box appears with a string of characters. Write down the Termination Code string of characters appearing on the dialog box. You will need this string of characters later. You can also take a screen capture (Alt+Print Screen keys, paste to MS Paint, Save).
Click OK.
Close ATEasy or the License Server.
Log into M@GIC (marvintest.com/magic)
Create a new incident, and post the Termination Code string of characters you wrote down in Step 5 (or screen capture) to a new or existing incident as proof of license termination.
If you need a new license for the new computer after
terminating the license, follow the procedure as described in
Setup ATEasy Single License or Setup
Network License.
