About Interfaces Standards

ATEasy supports the General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB) standard, the VXI bus standard, the RS-232 standard, the USB standard and the Winsock standard for its interfaces. Some interfaces require configuration prior to use while other are built in to ATEasy.

This chapter describes the GPIB, VXI, RS-232, USB, and Winsock standards and includes the following topics:

Topic

Description

GPIB Standard

Describes the GPIB devices, GPIB commands, types of polling performed, and GPIB signal lines used to carry messages.

RS-232 (COM) Standard

Describes how computing devices (DTEs) pass data to communications devices (DCEs), serial communication handshaking and protocol, RS-232 signal definitions, voltage definitions, COM troubleshooting tips, and how ATEasy uses the Windows COMM driver.

VXI Standard

Describes the VXIbus communications standards, including device types, protocols, communication handshakes, embedded and external CPU controllers, types of VXI bus hardware, the Resource Manager, and the use of the WordSerial protocol.

Winsock and LXI Standards

Provides an overview of the Windows Sockets TCP/IP also used by LXI programming interface.

USB Standard (v7)

Describes the programming USB using the Internal Library.
