Abstract

Embedded passive position sensors in various commercial aircraft locations have exhibited substantial failure rates and have resulted in costly turnbacks and delayed flights. Responding to the need to proactively identify marginal sensors prior to failure, Geotest and Alaska Airlines have developed an inexpensive test system that can facilitate the maintenance and troubleshooting of passive flaps and slats sensors for the Boeing 737-400 aircraft. The test system is used during heavy maintenance on commercial aircraft to identify, predict and analyze the failures of these embedded sensors.
