PXI Growth Means Users Can Get Creative

The PCI eXtensions for Instrumentation (PXI) market is riding high. The technology has become the industry standard for measurement and automation applications and is used in all market segments where measurement, control, or automation are required. Sales levels of PXI-based systems have continued to grow over the last few years, especially in the aerospace, semiconductor, industrial electronics, and telecommunications industries, and it looks like the trend will continue into 2011 and beyond.

What does this mean for PXI users?
Loofie Gutterman, Geotest's president explains that the ongoing success of PXI-based products creates a positive domino effect (or
GX5295 and GX5964
cycle of success) that drives more interest, investment, and innovation from PXI suppliers. And, as the power and functionality of the platform and products increase, so does the development of new applications that can help customers better meet their specific needs and even open up new markets. The result is that the development of innovative new applications fuels more R&D from PXI suppliers.

It’s a cycle that benefits everyone and gives users the opportunity to get creative and meet the test requirements of their organizations and their customers.

Mr. Gutterman notes that Geotest has been witnessing a phenomenal increase in PXI-based applications. Although many applications involve using PXI products in new test and integration solutions, some applications take the technology a bit further.

In one unique application, a customer used multiple PXI high-speed digital I/O cards as part of an application to demonstrate the feasibility of constructing a high-end radar system using COTS components. Another customer used PXI programmable power supplies to simulate solar arrays used on satellites. Still another used multiple analog and digital instruments for the verification and test of thrusters that will be used on a commercial space station.

These are just a few examples of the types of innovative, high-performance PXI-based products and applications that are driving the growth of PXI. Geotest supports our PXI customers by continuously investing in high-performance analog, digital, and chassis products that will help our customers meet the requirements of today’s demanding applications.

For example, our innovative FPGA-based products are being used by customers to create custom instrumentation on-the-fly with capabilities and flexibility they did not have in the past. And the analog and digital instruments we've introduced in the past two years are enabling our customers to develop high-performance testers with smaller footprints and lower costs compared to previous generation solutions.

Geotest depends on the success of its customers' applications. So if you cannot find a PXI solution that meets your needs, Geotest may be able to custom-design it for you.
